Sandstar Art – The beginning!

2020 was a year none of us will forget any time soon! Covid-19 ruined a lot of businesses and my freelance graphic design company ‘Sandstar Creative’ took a huge hit, with me losing about 80% of my clients and business during the various lockdowns.

So what do you do? I decided to create an Etsy shop! I have always drawn spooky artwork, especially inspired by Halloween – I used to post these in various Facebook groups and lots of people liked them, I would get lots of requests to make prints so that’s what I did!

One of the first posts I did in the HalloweenUK Facebook group – I couldn’t believe I got over 200 likes!

Sandstar Art Etsy shop opened on July 25th 2020 where I sold art prints, badges and stickers. Within 10 minutes of opening I made a sale! I couldn’t believe it, I was so overwhelmed. By the 1st of August I had sold over 30 items to 20 different people! This was crazy, I couldn’t believe how much people liked my art, let alone paying me money for it 🙂

As you can image this was all new to me. I was used to being self-employed having done so for a few years, but going to the Post Office, mounting, packing and learning postage rates was new territory for me and a little scary to start with…but I soon got the hang of it.

On July 31st I got my first Etsy review 🙂 – That was awesome and I felt a little relieved that the product I sold was living up to a 5 star review…Thanks Davina ❤

My first Etsy review!

I opened some new social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook & Twitter and instantly got a lot of positive feedback. Well established companies like October31st.com & TheCraftyBurreato shared me on their Instagram stories and people started sharing my products too. This was so amazing and not only was I excited to have this feedback I was so happy I had found so many people who were obsessed with all things spooky just like me.

So this is the beginning of Sandstar Art – It’s early days, but hopefully the shop will continue to grow and I will keep adding new products as often as I can. Thank you to everyone who has bought off me and supported me so far – you are amazing! 🎃
